Easter is an impressive celebration in the city of Agios Nikolaos. On the night of the "Anastassi " (Christ's Resurrection), thousands of people, holding candlelit with the Holy Light, gather around the lake for the symbolic "burning of judas" in the water, while fireworks form a dynamic unforgettable atmosphere, bursting the tremendous impact of the event's message.

Summer events in the area of Agios Nikolaos and Elounda feature Cretan, Greek and foreign bands, with traditional or contemporary repertoire, as well as drama performances and art exhibitions. Every two years, the "Nautical Week"is celebrated with swimming competitions, water sports and other events in the Marina of Agios Nikolaos.

Moreover, during the summer, remarkable festivals and traditional celebrations are organized in many villages, on religious celebrations or based on local products.

The most important festivals in the area of Mirabello are the "Myzithropita Festival"(myzithropita is a traditional cheese pie) held in the village of Kritsa in the end of July, the "Eftazymo Festival"(eftazymo is a traditional bread made from chickpeas), held in the village of Kroustas around the 20th of August and the celebration of the Assumption of Virgin Mary(a national religious holiday) in the village of Neapolis on the 15th of August.
